Raistlin was born to
Gilon Majere and Rosamun Majere in the town of Solace in 326 AC, shortly after
his twin brother Caramon Majere. The younger of the twins, Raistlin was a difficult
birth and was born feet first, which almost caused the death of his mother.
Raistlin was not given much chance to live by the midwife, but his older
half-sister, Kitiara Uth Matar, took to him at once and nursed him to health.
At the age of six,
Raistlin was taken by his father to study magic under Master Theobald.
Kitiara left home
around the same time as Raistlin joined Theobald’s mage academy.
By 342 AC, Raistlin
had been promoted to a novitiate at Poolbottom, and was growing into a
considerably skilled young mage. Their parents would die in short order.
The twins became
friends with a young lad from Solamnia named Sturm Brightblade. Within two
short years, the twins had expanded their circle of friends, and went on a
number of adventures with Sturm, Tanis Half-Elven, the kender Tasslehoff
Burrfoot, and a dwarven metalsmith named Flint Fireforge. Together, they
journeyed with Flint on the road to protect him from bandits when he would
travel to sell his wares.
the Companions
decided to split up in 346 AC, to find evidence of the true gods, and also to
undertake their own personal quests. They agreed to meet again five years
hence, at the Inn of the Last Home.
The Test of High
Sorcery
The first part of
Raistlin and Caramon’s journey after the Companions split up was to the
mysterious Wayreth Forest, where the young mage was to take the Test of High
Sorcery. At 20 years old, he would be the youngest mage to ever take the Test,
During the Test he
would encounter the Arch Mage Fistandantalus, who he would negoptiate part of
his life force for help during the trial
Rastlin would past
the test sacrificing his health and his relationship with his brother who
watched Raistlin kill an illustion of him.
War of the Lance
In 348 AC, Raistlin
and Caramon returned to Solace to reunite with the other Companions who had
departed on their various journeys five years before.
During that fateful
night, the Companions except for Kitiara were reunited at the Inn of the Last
Home, and were joined by Riverwind and Goldmoon of the Que-Shu tribe.

Post War of the
Lance and Legends
After the collapse
of the Temple of Takhisis, Raistlin traveled to the city of Palanthas where he
stepped up to the gates of the Tower of High Sorcery. Declaring himself the
Master of Past and Present, he lifted the curse the Black Robe, Rannoch, had
placed on the Tower shortly before the Cataclysm.
Moving into the
Tower, Raistlin used the next two years to study the spellbooks of
Fistandantilus to increase his own power, and to conduct experiments in the
Tower. In addition to creating the Chamber of Seeing, which was a giant pool of
water that he could use for scrying, the Chamber also served as the Lair of the
Live Ones:
During this time, he
developed a plan to challenge Takhisis for her seat in the pantheon of gods.
Confronting his
brother at last, Caramon informed Raistlin of the world which he and Tas saw if
Raistlin were to succeed—and in a moment of final understanding between
brothers, Raistlin repented and sacrificed himself to the Dark Goddess to
prevent her from coming into the world
Takhisis killed
Raistlin in the Abyss, with the plan to torture him, kill him every day, and
then bring him back to life to endure an eternity of torment. However because
of his sacrifice, Raistlin was granted a reprieve by Paladine and sent into a
long sleep.
Palin’s Test
Presumed dead by
everyone, Raistlin remained in the Abyss for many years.
Summer of Chaos.
Thus, Raistlin
returned to the world.
As part of his
penance for returning to the world, Raistlin did so without magic; he felt
that, like a recovered alcoholic given a drink, the urge to use the magic would
overpower him once again, and thus, he chose not to use his magic.
Returning home to
Solace, Raistlin was welcomed warmly by his brother and sister-in-law to the
room prepared for him at the Inn of the Last Home. However, his quest was not
entirely over, as the archmage delivered to his nephew the key to defeating
Chaos in the final battle: the spellbook of Magius, from which Palin cast a
spell to defeat the chaos minions that not even Magius himself was capable of
casting.
When the gods
departed the world in accordance to their agreement with Chaos, Raistlin
departed with them in 383 AC.
