"The Iron Throne is mine by right. All those that deny that are my foes."

―Stannis Baratheon

Stannis is one of the most accomplished field generals in the Seven Kingdoms. He fought for his brother King Robert during his rebellion against The Mad King. At one point he was besieged at Storm's End and would have starved if not for the smuggler Davos Seaworth.

Stannis destroyed the Greyjoy fleet during their failed rebellion and was made Lord of Dragonstone and given a position on the small council as Master of Ships. He was later converted to worship the Lord of Light by the witch Melisandre who is called the Red Woman.

After Roberts death he killed his brother Renly and launched and attack on Kings Landing only to be turned back by the city defense of Tyrion Lanisster and the timely arrival of Tywin Lannister led forces including the Tyrell forces. Stannis would later be killed by Brienne of Tarth as payment for the death of Renly Baratheon.

"Before long I'll be dead, and you and your brother and your sister and all of her children, all of us dead, all of us rotting in the ground. It's the family name that lives on. It's all that lives on. Not your personal glory, not your honor... but family."
―Tywin Lannister to his eldest son, Jaime

Lord Tywin Lannister was the head of House Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock, Warden of the West, Lord Paramount of the Westerlands, Hand of the King for three different kings, and Protector of the Realm. He is the father of Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion Lannister, and sole grandfather of the incest-born Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen Baratheon.

"We've had vicious kings and we've had idiot kings, but I don't know if we've ever been cursed with a vicious idiot for a king."

―Tyrion Lannister to his nephew King Joffrey Baratheon

King Joffrey I Baratheon is a major character in the first, second, third, and fourth seasons. Though believed by most to be the eldest son of King Robert Baratheon and Queen Cersei Lannister, Joffrey is actually a bastard born from Cersei's incestuous relationship with her twin brother, Ser Jaime Lannister of the Kingsguard. He is the older brother of Myrcella Baratheon and Tommen Baratheon, both of whom share the same parentage with Cersei and Jaime Lannister.
He is the Grandson of Tywin Lannister and the Nephew of Tyrion Lanister.

"All men should keep their word, kings most of all."

―Robb Stark

Robb Stark is the eldest son of Eddard Stark and CatelynTully and is the heir of House Stark to Winterfell and the north. He is called the Young Wolf by friend and foe alike.

His siblings are Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon. John Snow is his cousin and Theon Greyjoy is for a time hims closest friend. He is killed by Walder Frey and Roose Bolton at the infamous Red Wedding.

"I did what I had to do to survive, my lady. But I am a Stark, I will always be a Stark."

―Sansa to Lyanna Mormont

Sansa was born and raised at Winterfell. She has an older brother, Robb, two younger brothers, Bran
and Rickon, a younger sister, Arya and a "bastard half-brother" Jon Snow, whom she had a distant relationship with due to her mother's influence (which, like her mother, Sansa later regretted). Sansa enjoys proper "lady-like" pursuits, and is good at sewing, embroidering, poetry, singing, dancing, literature and music. When she was young she dreamed of being a regal Queen like Cersei Lannister, and that just like in the epic songs she would meet her knight in shining armor. She has inherited her mother's Tully coloring, unlike most of her siblings, and Lady Catelyn thinks Sansa will be even more beautiful than she was when she was younger. She is often seen in contrast with her sister, Arya Stark who has neither her looks nor her accomplishments in feminine activities and comportment.

She is promised to Joffery Baratheon but after he chooses to marry Maraery Tyrell she instead married to Tyrion Lannister. She escapes North with the help of Little Finger and is married to Ramsey Bolton.

"What wife would do the things I've done for you? What wife would trust you the way I've trusted you? When you gave me those drops and told me to pour them into Jon's wine. My husband's wine. And you told me to write a letter to Cat telling her it was the Lannisters..."
―Lysa Arryn to Petyr Baelish, admitting she committed mariticide for him

Lady Regent of the Vale, widow of Jon Arryn the former Hand of King Robert Baratheon, She is the sister of Catelyn Stark and the aunt of Robb Stark, Sansa Stark, Bran Stark and Rickon Stark. She later marries Little Finger

"I don't care if he's a bastard; Ned Stark's blood runs through his veins. He's my king, from this day until his last day!"
―Lady Lyanna Mormont

Jon Snow, born Aegon Targaryen, is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, the late Prince of Dragonstone. From infancy, Jon is presented as the bastard son of Lord Eddard Stark, Lyanna's brother, and raised alongside Eddard's lawful children at Winterfell. Jon's true parentage is kept secret from everyone, including Jon himself, in order to protect him from those that sought the complete annihilation of House Targaryen.

Jon joins the Night's Watch and is later elected as Lord Commander. As a result of several controversial decisions, such as allowing the wildlings to settle south of the Wall, Jon is murdered in a mutiny, but is resurrected by Melisandre.

Freed from his Night's Watch vows, Jon and his half-sister Sansa Stark retake Winterfell from House Bolton, restoring House Stark's dominion over the North. Jon is declared King in the North.

Jon negotiates with Daenerys Targaryen for an alliance against the White Walkers in the imminent Great War. Later he pledges himself and his army to Daenerys, whom he falls in love with, subsequently abdicating his throne and being named Warden of the North.[2]

Later, Jon learns his true lineage from Samwell Tarly, revealing Daenerys is his aunt. A dragonrider whose dragon was Rhaegal, he fights in the Battle of Winterfell, during which the Night King is defeated and the return of the Long Night is prevented. Afterwards, Jon aids Daenerys in her resumed campaign to take the Iron Throne and participates in the Battle of King's Landing. However, when Daenerys lays waste to a surrendered King's Landing, Jon tries but is unable to dissuade her from more destruction and assassinates her to prevent further carnage.
